In Memory of a Friend...

We regret to inform you that Reno has lost a close friend and active member of the community. Beau Shaver passed away today. He was a light and a natural leader. He graced us with his ambition and charisma, his fearlessness, intelligence, and his warmth. For years Beau has been an integral part of the Reno community, encouraging young people to feel proud of their city and support their friends, to seek out and create the change one wishes for. I recall a conversation Beau and I had two summers ago on a road trip to San Francisco. With fierce excitement he talked almost the entire way about an electricity collecting in Reno, that being here, now, offers us a unique opportunity to participate in the momentum of our city's change. In honor of Beau and all of the truly amazing individuals who help Reno's community thrive and blossom, we promise to help carry the torch. And may this difficult time be a reminder to all of us how precious people are and how temporary life is.

We love you Beau.

After the reception last night I realized how many different ways people are coping with this loss. From people that I have never met to those I spend every day with, the grief is strong. But through all the grief and sadness is the great love, joy and eternal bond that Beau brought to all his groups of friends. With lasting memories in the hearts of his family. His Reno family. To a brother, a friend, a lover, a father, an inspirer, a supporter, someone that always had your back, someone that always made you laugh, here's to you dear friend, brother. Beau Shaver, rest in peace.
